ATX Urban Trails & Safe Streets Underway
In 2020 Austin passed Prop B passed with 67% of the vote!! Get ready for a world-class walking, bicycling, urban trail, and safe streets network within 6 years! At BIKEALOT, we're thrilled because we believe all Austin citizens deserve safe mobility, regardless of age, ability, income, zip code, or skin color.
Please take part in the public process by joining Safe Streets Austin, and participating in community engagement opportunities like ATX Walk Bike Roll to help ensure Prop B funds are spent wisely and equitably.
"Methane is a Menace" - Brad
Austin's outdoor recreation businesses, including BIKEALOT, are already feeling the negative economic impacts of climate change. As we explain in our op-ed in the Austin Chronicle, we need the EPA to strengthen and implement their draft rule to reduce methane emissions in order for current and future generations to enjoy the beauty and benefits of nature. Join our email list and stay tuned for a link when the EPA opens the draft rule for public comments.
Austin Ridge Riders
The Austin Ridge Riders mission is to develop trails by promoting trail stewardship in cooperation with local land managers, improve mountain bike awareness and access, and bring people together to build a strong off road cycling community. Join them for a group ride and volunteer to help build or improve our local trails.
Safe Streets Austin
Our friends at BikeAustin.org merged into the new organization called Safe Streets Austin. It's a movement to transform Austin’s streets, bikeways, and trails into safe, vibrant, and equitable places for people of all ages and abilities to walk, bike, roll, and gather. From group rides to advocacy, there are lots of fun & important ways to get involved.
Rethink 35
Join Austin's grassroots movement fighting the proposed I-35 expansion to 20+ lanes through the heart of Austin. Has Texas learned nothing from the Katy Freeway fiasco in Houston?! More lanes = More traffic, more accidents, more division, and more pollution.
14 other Texas cities re-rout through traffic around city centers. Austin could too! Just imagine how a boulevard, or the cap & stitch alternative, could enrich and reconnect our community as opposed to further dividing and polluting Austin with a MASSIVE expansion of I-35.
Check out this great article from Inside Climate News about the pending lawsuit to stop the I-35 expansion because doing so would inevitably exacerbate climate change and harm our public health.
